Spicy Crispy Broccoli

Hi friends!

Did you miss me? You might have noticed that I’ve taken a bit of a hiatus and that I haven’t posted in a while! Well there’s been a lot of change in my life lately – and I’m very ready to settle back into routine.

Moving at the end of May kind of took over our lives, but we’ve now settled into our new place and it’s simply perfect. We moved from a tiny apartment into the upper floor of a duplex on a sunny tree-lined quiet street. We’re still waiting on a few items to be delivered (like new dining room chairs – eek! and new hardware for the kitchen cabinets – yay!) and somehow in the move I’ve lost my giant glass fruit bowl. So right now I have a fruit pile and it’s really just not the same for me. But overall I think we’ve come through pretty well unscathed.

But hey – you’re probably just here for the broccoli, right?

Confession time: I don’t actually like broccoli that much. I feel like I can taste it too much when it’s steamed, and I’m not a fan of the texture when it’s raw – it just gets in my mouth.

BUT, when I bake it like this I EAT IT LIKE CANDY (ferociously and with reckless abandon).

This spicy crispy broccoli is SO DANG GOOD. The two of us easily eat a whole pan, I mean I could honestly probably eat it all by myself #skills. It’s a great side dish or a great late-night snack, or it could really be the star of a meal if you tossed it on a bed of baked quinoa . When you bake this broccoli it gets all crispy, and it’s salty and spicy and you can hardly even tell it’s broccoli at all!

  • 1 large head of broccoli (or 2 medium heads)
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp sesame oil
  • 1 tbsp chili oil
  • 1 tbsp sriracha or chili paste
  • 1 tsp honey
  • 2 crushed cloves of garlic
  • sesame seeds and fresh ground black pepper (optional)

  1. Pre-heat oven to 350º.
  2. Cut broccoli into smaller pieces, keeping the stems as long as possible (these get so crunchy and perfect).
  3. Combine soy sauce, chili oil, sriracha, honey and garlic in a large bowl with a whisk.
  4. Add the broccoli to the bowl stirring to ensure all broccoli is evenly coated.
  5. Spread the broccoli onto a large baking dish and place in the oven.
  6. Bake for 40-50min, or until broccoli is very crispy and delicious smelling.
  7. Remove from oven and sprinkle with sesame seeds and fresh ground black pepper

That’s all folks! Let me know how it goes in your kitchen!
